Malawi Government Investigating Missing Aircraft Carrying Vice President

The Malawi government has reported that a military aircraft carrying Vice President Saulos Chilima has gone missing after failing to land as scheduled on Monday morning.

In a statement, the government said, "All efforts by aviation authorities to make contact with the aircraft since it went off the radar have failed thus far." The plane, which took off just after 9:00 am local time (0700 GMT), was carrying the 51-year-old Vice President and nine other individuals.

President Lazarus Chakwera has ordered regional and national forces to launch an "immediate search and rescue operation to locate the whereabouts of the aircraft," the statement added.

The government has not provided any further details on the nature of the flight or the circumstances surrounding the aircraft's disappearance. Officials are currently working to determine the location of the missing plane and those on board.

The incident has raised concerns in Malawi, where air travel safety has been an ongoing issue. The government has assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to find the missing aircraft and its occupants.
