Hoodlums Destroy Property Over Implementation Of Executive In Jos OrderLast Updated: June 18, 2024 7:05 Am

THE SOUTHERN POST gathered that Bukuru, a community in the Jos South Local Government Council of Plateau State, was thrown into chaos on Monday as rampaging hoodlums destroyed several cars and set fire to buildings. This incident followed an alleged minor skirmish between the hoodlums and security operatives at the Kugiya market.

The trouble began around 2 pm when a team from the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) and security personnel arrived in the area to enforce an executive order recently signed by the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang. The enforcement team faced resistance from irate youths who were armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, leading to a violent confrontation.

According to an eyewitness, Ibrahim Pam, over 10 cars were set ablaze during the enforcement operation carried out by the JMDB and security agencies, including the police and men from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). It took the intervention of the security forces to restore calm to the situation.

The executive order signed by Governor Mutfwang, known as Executive Order No. 003, 2024, was aimed at addressing the indiscriminate manner in which buildings were being erected and the deterioration of traffic control within the Greater Jos Master plan, as well as the prevalence of building collapses in the state.

When contacted, the Plateau State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, confirmed that the state Police Commissioner had immediately deployed personnel to the troubled area, and that normalcy had been restored.
